Easy run

Did the neighborhood loop this afternoon. I was playing with MyTracks/GPS on my phone to track my route and upload it to google. Unfortunately the GPS cut out during the last mile and didn’t record. Not too sure if it was a phone issue or location. There’s a large broadcasting tower near my house so it could be blanketing the GPS signal or maybe my phone just cut out for the battery or some other reason.

Anyway, the run felt good, if not even a little slow. I attempted to keep my heart rate under 166, and was able to do so for half the workout. I think that pretty good giving the constant rolling hills in the neighborhood and my lack of conditioning. The data points are as follows: 846 calories burned, 30% fat, average heart rate was 166, in zone for 24′ 48″ of the 50′ 08″ spent running. Link to the map can be found in my Twitter post or go to the google link directly. To complete the loop, go from the endpoint and continue on George Mason to Lee Highway and take a left. Continue to Kensington and turn left. Run one block to the start point. Should be ~4.5 miles.

Early Swim

Today I decided to stay up after work to attend the 5:30am swim practice. I work a 1pm-1am night shift, staying up to 5am is normal. I was able to do the swim just fine (I did skip 150 yrds of the workout for extra rest and to stay with my lane), but only getting 4-5 hours of sleep is killing me right now. I could likely fall asleep at this moment without any issues other than work getting quite peeved. We’ll see if I’ll do the spin workout tonight, I might just go strait to bed once I get home.

Mooseman Addeed to Calendar

Last night I signed up for the Moosman half ironman. That gives me ruffly 113 days to be half ironman ready. I know I could be ready–TNT events typically schedule 3-4 months of training for a 1/2, but to think of where I’m now and my previous training dedication, I wonder if I’ll be ready. I’ll know in April when some of the early sprints and oly’s come around how ready I’ll be, but I’ll really have to hammer my training in February and March. (Hammer as in “nail it” or do consistently, not as in “do it extra hard and hope for no injuries.”) Right now I’m one part excited and one part nervous. Dedicated training will make the nervousness go away… if only I could be confident that I will be dedicated.

Road to Ironman Florida (the training blog begins)

I figure now would be the best time to start recording my progress towards IMFL since I’m more or less beginning my training right about now. Sure, I’ve already done a few swims, bikes, and runs this year; but I’ve just got over a two week cold that halted all training. Tonight I started the evening with a trip to Starbucks, an hour coaching swim practice, and then a Yuengling and a large helping of wings. Now properly (or improperly) fueled, I decided to do my run workout. I started ruffly 20 minutes past midnight and ran for 43′ 25″ on a 3.5-4.5 mile course of rolling hills. Average heart-rate was 181 bpm, and estimated calories burned was 840 (20% being fat).

I was probably well over my zone for the entire run, but the pace and effort felt good. I’m still debating if I should strictly stay to Z2 training during the run even if I find it physically painful on my legs or to stay with a good stride even if it keeps me out of zone. The desired is to have a comfortable stride in Z2, but until I get in shape and loose some weight, it’s unlikely to happen.
